What if it all went right?

The start of the year feels like it’s barely begun, and yet already it seems too chock-full of endings: the ends of jobs, friendships, marriages, lives. Had been feeling a little mopey, but then came across this lovely quote by Andrew Sean Geer, which acknowledges the beauty of endings (which might not always spell new beginnings).

Twenty years of joy and support and friendship, that’s a success. Twenty years of anything with another person is a success. If a band stays together twenty years, it’s a miracle. If a comedy duo stays together twenty years, they’re a triumph. Is this night a failure because it will end in an hour? Is the sun a failure because it’s going to end in a billion years?

At a time when staying open to the possibility of an expanded community seems pretty silly, I remain determined to keep trying!
